Where The Land Meets The Sea - 8th & 9th June 2026 10am - 4pm
In this 2 day workshop we will explore, through freewriting, poetry, folklore, and memoir, our relationship to the land, sea and the place where they meet. Earth and water are our natural heritage, both as external realities and as metaphors for our internal landscapes. We place our feet firmly on the ground to walk, to grow, and to live in the world. The sea is an unpredictable force that has the ability to calm and stir us; it's often associated with deep emotions and the unconscious. Then there's the place where the 2 meet, between solidity and fluidity, known in Celtic folklore as the 'thin space', or the 'threshold'. It's the mystery that lies between dreaming & waking, conscious & unconscious, life & death; the space where transitions occur. What might this place mean to us individually? During the 2 days we walk on land and enter the sea. You can just wet your toes or immerse yourself fully. Swimwear and towels essential.
The workshop will be held in converted stables at Flowerdew Farm Camping & Glamping site, though much of day will be spent outdoors. The Hidden Life of Trees - 17th & 18th June 2026 10am - 4pm
Our close relationship to trees goes back hundreds and thousand of years. They have sheltered us, shaded us, and kept us warm by the fireside. We have made tables, chairs, boats and houses from them, have built industries around them, yet we have lost our connection to these incredible and varied species. How much time do we spend listening in silence and reverence to the sound of the wind moving through their leaves, or the sway of their creaking limbs as our ancestors did? Trees have much to offer us in terms of helping our physical and mental health; they improve air quality, calm our nervous systems, and connect us to the natural world. I will invite participants on a walk in the woods to choose a tree, to slow down to tree time, and to experience the world through its stillness. We will contemplate and observe the tree through expressive writing exercises, and take inspiration from memory, folklore, poetry, and literature.
The workshop will held in a large bell tent at Flowerdew Farm Camping & Glamping site, though much of day will be spent outdoors.Flowerdew Farm are offering 10% discount on camping and glamping for 2 nights stay from 16th - 18th of June, for those who have booked the workshop.
